On the occasion of the centenary of her major collage "Cut with the Dada Kitchen Knife through the Last Weimar Beer-Belly Cultural Epoch in Germany" first presented at the International DADA Fair in Berlin in 1919; an elderly museum attendant self-commissions himself to recreate a live installation of the collage, updated for the cultural and political climate of 2019.
HANNAH HÖCH (1889-1978), was one of the very few women artists actively present at the Berlin DADA events. Through her work she questioned society as well as sexual and artistic norms. Together with Raoul Hausmann, she pioneered the technique of photomontage. Her collages assembled hybrid forms that dissolved the boundaries between gender, social class, culture, and artistic categories. A committed feminist, she supported the emancipation of women during the Weimar Republic.
LA NEUE FRAU draws from her artistic and political gesture, bringing the questions raised by this DADA pioneer into resonance with the 21st century.
